So you’ve either booked your first trip with EF Ultimate Break or you’re still deciding on if planning a trip is the right move. Either way, yay for you wanting to get out there and see the world. Here are some things that I wish I would have known before traveling with EF Ultimate Break that can hopefully help you:
You will spend a lot of time traveling between cities.
This one might seem kind of dumb, but I really had no idea how much time I’d actually be spending on a bus going from city to city. I typically spent 2-6 hours traveling to different cities throughout parts of Europe, so just be aware of that. I will say though that I really didn’t mind this. It ended up being the perfect way to catch up on sleep and the views were always surreal.
Making friends isn’t what you think.
This was probably what I was most nervous about and it was so surprisingly easy! I became instant best friends with two girls I met at the airport for a layover, as well as my roommate the first night. If you don’t hit it off with someone right away, the welcome dinner on the first night is a perfect opportunity to get to know other travelers.
Free time does exist.
There were so many opportunities to go wander around and explore with your friends. The day would usually start with a group tour, and then you were off to go and do your own thing.
I was worried we would be on walking tours the whole day or that it would feel like we constantly had a chaperone. However, that was never the case. The balance of scheduled activities and free time was perfect.
The excursions are a must.
The optional excursions though EF Ultimate Break were seriously amazing and were some of my best memories. So, if you’re on the fence about doing them please do! I don’t know if all tour guides do this, but mine offered some additional excursions to participate in and I would recommend doing those as well. They are such great ways to experience a new and exciting culture.
Delayed flights happen.
Ah the thing every traveler wishes would never happen to them. Well, it does, and it did to me. My connecting flight to get to my destination was delayed about 8 hours. Because of this, I missed the bus arrangement that was made to take myself, and two other girls, to the hotel where we were supposed to meet with rest of our group.
Obviously, that didn’t happen, but our tour guide was so helpful. We texted her right away and she gave us directions on what to do next and made sure we got the next flight. Luckily, I wasn’t completely alone through this but if you are, try not to worry….you will get to your destination eventually!
Getting ready to pack your bags? These are some must haves for surviving international travel.
