Struggling with acne is the worst but there are a lot of simple and easy things you can do to help stop those annoying breakouts. Follow these tips for clear skin and say goodbye to acne.
Stop touching your face
Don’t squeeze, poke, pop, or touch. Our hands carry so much bacteria and oil that you definitely don’t want to be transferring on to your face. You may not even realize you are touching your face, but resting your hand on your face while you are sitting can be a huge culprit.
And, picking at your skin can just spread bacteria and cause new breakouts – not good! Also, picking and popping can lead to scarring which will give you a whole to problem to try and solve later on.
Wash your face
Kind of obvious, but maybe not so much if you are just starting to struggle with acne. It’s important to wash your face twice a day and to use the right products. Regular soap will strip your skin of it’s natural oils and won’t help your acne. Stick with gentle cleaners like this one from Cetaphil.
Always remove makeup
I can not stress this enough! Taking off your makeup is one of the most important tips for clear skin. I don’t care how tired you are or how lazy you are, walking yourself over to the bathroom and just take it off. All those products have already been sitting on your skin for long enough and your skin needs a chance to breathe.
You can use a makeup wipe first, but then always wash your face after with your regular cleanser.
Read the label
When searching for skincare or makeup products, make sure to read the label. Look for words like oil free, noncomedogenic and nonacnegenic. That means those products will not clog your pores.
Also, check for products that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide. These two ingredients are supposed to work to clear breakouts. Some good products that contain either of the ingredients are this Neutrogena Spot Treatment, and this Mario Badescu Cleanser.
Moisturize
If you have oily skin you may think the last think you want to do is add a moisturizer. This is not true! Adding moisturizer to your skin care routine, especially at night, hydrates your skin and keep it healthy. Make sure you you keep the points from above in mind and read the label.
Disinfect your phone screen
This is something you should be doing anyways because phones are gross. But think about how many times throughout the day you touch your phone and then your phone touches your face. Yeah, ew is right. Do your skin favor and take a couple seconds a day to disinfect the screen.
Change your pillow cases often
This can be a real game changer. Even if you are dedicated to washing your face before bed, a lot of dirt and oil that got left behind can transfer to your pillow case. Silk pillowcases are the best for both your skin and hair.
A quick little hack if you don’t want to go out and buy a bunch of pillowcases is to just throw an old t-shirt over your pillow and use that as a case instead.
Wear your hair up
Again with the oils, but oils in your hair can be transferred to your face if you tend to wear your hair down a lot. Style it in a ponytail, braid, or bun to keep your hair from touching your face. Pushing your hair back with a headband works too.
Drink water
Water works to help get rid of all the toxins in the body and helps to keep skin looking healthy and hydrated. It also has about a million other benefits for your body like aiding in your digestive system and keeping the body energized.
If you struggle to drink water, try bringing a stainless steel water bottle around with you so you always have cold water to drink. My favorites are Yetis, Hydro Flasks, and Swell water bottles. They keep your water cold all day long so you will be more likely to sip on it throughout the day.
Keep a journal
Start keeping track of things like what you’re eating, how much sleep you’re getting, etc. You may start to notice a pattern that you break out when eating certain foods, when you don’t get enough sleep, when you’re on your period, etc. Knowing what triggers your acne can help keep it away.

These are all so helpful! Especially the pillow case one. I never realized that was why I was breaking out until a few months ago. Now I change my pillow case once every few days and my skin has definitely changed for the better. Great read, thanks so much for sharing!
