Dealing with acne is hard, and trying to cover it up can be even worse. First and foremost, just know that almost everyone struggles with acne at some point in their life and you are still beautiful regardless of the amount of acne you have, and you do not need to hide your face under makeup. However, if you do choose to use makeup to conceal your acne, it’s important that you are using the right products. This is some of the best makeup for acne prone skin that will help you immensely.
Neutrogena
Neutrogena was specifically recommended to me by my dermatologist as a brand to stick to for makeup. Some of their products are noncomedogenic and contain salicylic acid. This means the products won’t clog your pores and they will also work to help prevent new breakouts.
My favorite products are the SkinClearing Mineral Acne-Concealing Pressed Powder Compact (say that ten times fast). It covers blemishes nicely while also helping to reduce shine. You can wear the powder on its own or pair it with the SkinClearing Liquid Foundation and the SkinClearing Blemish Concealer.
Clinique
Clinique was another green light product recommended by my dermatologist. They are at a bit higher price point, but they have some great makeup for acne prone skin, like their Acne Solutions Liquid Makeup. It has more of a medium coverage and it’s great for those with oily or combination skin. It’s also fragrance free, oil free and non-acnegenic, so it’s made for those with acne.
My absolute favorite Clinique product for acne prone skin is their Airbrush Concealer. It’s no advertised to be good at covering acne, but in my experience it works great, and doesn’t look thick and cakey like a lot of concealers can when you try to cover up breakouts.
bareMinerals
bareMinerals was the first brand I ever put on my face once I started to get acne. Their products always look so natural on the skin and continue to look good throughout the day. I have nothing but good things to say about their ORIGINAL Foundation. It blends beautifully into the skin and you can go in with a small brush and pat on extra product over your problem areas. The foundation also contains SPF which is a huge plus to help protect your skin.
Since I started using their products, they’ve come out with a line specifically for those with acne. Their Blemish Rescue Skin-Clearing Loose Powder Foundation contains salicylic acid to help clear acne and also has a matte finish which if perfect if you have oily skin. Like the products above, it’s noncomedogenic and non-acnegenic so it won’t clog your pores.
I know acne sucks, and you want to do everything you possibly can to help cover it up. But to help get rid of it, make sure you are following these tips to help clear your skin.
