Deciding to do a no spend moth is a great goal to have for yourself. But, finding things to do that won’t cost you money can be a challenge. Here are some productive things to do during your no spend month that will keep you busy and help you to not spend any money.
Update your resume
Nothing is worse than scrolling through LinkedIn and seeing an opening for your dream job and then realizing your resume hasn’t been updated in 5 years. Take the time to thoroughly update your resume so it is ready to go the next time you decide to apply for a new job opportunity.
Back up your photos
Correction. Nothing is worse than losing all of your photos from your phone. You’ve either been there yourself or you know someone it’s happened to. Take the time to put all your photos on your computer and back them up to a flash drive. Even if you have iCloud set up, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
Clean out your closet
Take the time to go through EVERYTHING. I promise you that you have so many clothes in your closes that you hardly wear, and you have random clothes taking up quality closet space. Good rule to go by is that if you forgot you had it than you can live without it and it goes.
Declutter
Once you clean your closet, you’ll want to clean everything. Marie Kondo the heck out of your space so it is left feeling free of any clutter.
Sell your stuff
Once your closet is cleared and you’ve removed all the clutter, give a try at selling any items of value. Places like Poshmark and Facebook Marketplace are great for making a little extra money for something you would have gotten rid of anyways.
Read a book recommended by a friend
We all have that friend who seems like they read a new book every week (or maybe you are that friend). Anyways, they would be more than thrilled to share their favorite book with you.
Accomplish a fitness goal
Maybe you’ve always wanted to run a 5K or even just a mile. Now is the perfect time to put a good dent into that goal or achieve it completely. If you don’t have a specific fitness goal in mind, there are so many fitness challenges on YouTube for you to give a try.
Bake
Remember all those pins you pinned to your Pinterest board but never got around to trying? Well, now is the time. Find a yummy dish and get to baking. You may even discover that it will be your new favorite hobby.
Find your signature recipe
While you’re at it, find a cooking recipe you pinned years ago that you swore to yourself you’d make. Take the time to cook a couple of things until you find something that can be your signature dish that you can bring to parties or family gatherings.
Pick up an old hobby
Whether you used to paint, play an instrument, do puzzles, etc. I’m sure you will find that you still love doing those things and life just got in the way so you forgot all about it.
Organize old photos
Remember how our parents used disposable cameras to document our childhood? And how you had to go to a store to get the photos developed? I know it seems like ancient times, but those photos are probably a mess in the back of a closet somewhere. Take the opportunity to make a fun activity out of this and sit down with family or friends to go through and organize all these photos. I’m sure it will bring back some great memories.
Deep Clean
Last on the list of productive things to do during your no spend month is to clean. And I mean really deep clean. Like clean the inside of your fridge, go through your cabinets to get rid of everything expired, etc. If cleaning is the opposite of fun for you then this might sound like a nightmare. But, just think about how amazing it will feel when you home is sparkling, shiny and clean.
Now that you have a list of productive things to do during your no spend month, it’s time to see what else you can do to help prepare for your no spend challenge.
